Mr. Robbins, Guidance Counselor

Hello!  My name is...
Mr. Robbins

Mr. Robbins, School Counselor

I am the School Counselor at Washington Elementary School.
Welcome to my WES webpage!

In addition to the counseling services that I provide, a large part of my time throughout each day is spent in the classroom teaching lessons rooted in one of three domains:

Career Development
»The more careers that the students are exposed to, the more careers they will consider
»Connecting the subject material to different careers can help the students understand how important school truly is.

Academic Development
»Some of the lessons will teach and reinforce skills that can help improve academic performance
-Listening skills
-Study skills
-Work habits

Social/Personal Development
»A large portion of the lessons will focus on character education, reinforcing and emphasizing the importance of qualities such as:
-Decision Making
-And many more!

»I will also be utilizing a new program called Second Step.

Second Step
Second Step promotes school success as well as a safe and respectful school climate by teaching skills in four areas.

1. Skills for Learning: Students gain skills to help themselves learn including how to focus their attention, to listen carefully, and to be assertive.

2. Empathy: Students learn to identify and understand their own and others' feelings.Students also learn how to take another's perspective and how to show compassion.

3. Emotion Management: Students learn specific skills for calming down when experience strong feelings such as anger and frustration.

4. Problem Solving: Students learn a process for solving problems with others in a positive way.
